Nemo has recently launched two brand new tent styles into the Australian market, the Dagger and the Hornet. We have been lucky enough to snare a couple to give you a quick tease and highlight their features before we give them a more thorough workout over the next few months.

Dagger 2 Person

The Dagger 2P is for those who want a more liveable 3 season tent but are still looking for a lightweight option for hiking. With a trail weight of 1.7kg the Dagger is the perfect option for the hiker who wants to shed weight & doesn’t want to haul around a 2 plus kilo tent but doesn’t want to sacrifice internal volume, liveability and comfort.

Divvy™ Sack dual stage drawstring stuff sack compacts the Dagger down to a very small unit.

The Dagger range features a fully waterproof polyurethane coated nylon floor that has high bath tub walls. This allows for a smaller fly, which cuts weight but still gives you a dry home if the weather turns sour. A mixture of 20D Nylon Ripstop & No-See-Um Mesh makes up the rest of the inner providing plenty of ventilation when the weather is warm and privacy if the fly isn’t wanterd to allow for some star gazing.

The twin vestibules of the Dagger allow plenty of room for each person to have their own space to store their pack, cook in bad weather and extra cross ventilation in warm weather. The top of the fly opening is also outside the footprint of the floor which keeps the rain from dripping inside the inner when getting in and out of the tent in bad weather.

Ample room in the vestibule for equipment or cooking.

If your camping on rough camp-sites a footprint is available which only adds 216g to the pack weight. In my eyes the footprint is easily justified as it provides greater durability to the tent floor especially when camping in more remote campsites over the years.

With some great reviews already flowing in the Dagger range is sure to be a favourite for the hiker who wants to save weight in their pack but not feel like they are sleeping in a coffin.

Hornet 2 Person

Nemo’s new Hornet range is where things truly get exciting as these tents represent some of lightest double wall tents Nemo have ever made and essentially replace their award winning Obi series.

The Hornet 2P has been designed to allow for maximum use of internal space when fitting two bodies inside. This design allows for the perfect footprint to allow 2 regular sized sleeping mats to fit with room to spare as well as the head room to allow you to sit up inside the tent when getting changed.

Like the Dagger the Hornet features a deep bathtub floor, a large mesh inner and a light weight nylon panel for privacy. To shed even more grams an ultra light 7 denier PeU fly and 20D denier PeU floor is used. Again a 198g footprint is available for added durability to the floor for camping at rough campsites.

The packability and weight of the Hornet 2P is amazing for a two person tent. Using the Divvy™ Sack dual stage drawstring stuff sack your able to compress the inner and fly away to a size not much bigger than a 1l Nalgene bottle. With a trail weight of 1kg the days of visiting the chiropractor after a multiday hike are long gone.

What truly sets this tent apart from many others in the sub 1kg category are the two doors and vestibules which allows for some great cross ventilation, a space for each person’s equipment, cooking in poor weather as well as the Hornets semi-free standing design.
